The Rest of the Series

The Game of Life?, 2007
Lithograph

For a Good Cause?, 2007
Lithograph

These prints are a continuation of my series on the effect of consumerism on America. The top print deals with the issue of kids driven to sit and play video games rather than be driven to get up and move around. I wish they knew how much they are missing by glueing themselves to the box.
The next print is another one of those little ridiculous things that people do. They believe they are contributing to a cause by plastering their possessions (vehicles) with bumper stickers that are in support of those causes. In actuallity, if they would stop purchasing and using the bumper stickers, they would probably actually do something worthwhile, like save a tree...

Print Exchange

The Ridiculous Drive of Consumerism in America, 2007
Lithography

There are too many things wrong with this country today. This print is one in a series of the little things we can change on a daily basis to turn the world around. In this print, The Ridiculous Drive of Consumerism in America, I have portrayed a sight that is becoming all too common every year - Christmas in September. As a part-time mail carrier, I witness on a first-hand basis how much consumerism is getting out of hand. Every year, on the first mail days after Labor Day, the holiday catalogs come out, big-time. I see how more people than one would guess get more than 20 catalogs in a day! Tell me the world is not whacked seriously...

Honore' Daumier and George Bellows have really peaked my interest this semester. I love Bellows' quality of value in his prints. Daumier was a man heavy on sarcasm, which is always up my alley.

More work

ongoing project

This painting is a watercolour that I did this summer. It is titled Nets for Nicholas and is part of a series that I intend to be charity pieces, with proceeds going to fund mosquito nets in malaria stricken countries. A simple $3.00 mosquito net decreases a person's risk of acquiring malaria by 90%! More information will follow as I finish the series and make the paintings available for sale.

Ballad from Daumier's group

Lihography, All hail!
The fad will n'er grow stale!
Fair, ugly, big and small,
The crayon gets them all.

Our streets go on and on,
A regular salon
Where, though you've never posed,
You'll find yourself exposed.

should've stayed in bed with a bottle of something

Ok, so I had the opportunity to pull some test prints in litho on Thursday, and let me just say, I should have avoided that situation. But maybe not. When I go to do some more prints this week, I will have some learnedness in my back pocket. It is becoming one of the best hard works that a person will ever do. In that sense, it is not unlike labor and birth. It's a lot of hard work, but you would do it again in a heartbeat...and trust me, I know about that.

dirty hands

I just wanted to give a shout out today, that is so, so, soooooo good to be back in the shop getting my hands dirty. I'm thoroughly enjoying the whole zen process of litho, but I have to admit, that I was too anxious to start printing and therefore, made a new plate this morning and pulled a couple of prints this afternoon. Complete bliss!

400 lb stones and 100 lb levigators! oh, my!

Whether or not I have any keeper litho prints is nullified by the fact that my upper body will look like Schwarzenegger's by the end of semester. There is definitely blood, sweat, and tears involved in litho printing. That's just the preprint prep! I'm anxious to actually start work on the stones. They definitely command respect.

Litho, baby....

Summer is quickly dwindling and classes begin in two short days. What better way to start off the year than with Litho as the first class. It will be good to be back in the print shop. I am anxious to start new and tweak some old projects (in spare time, ha ha ha). Welcome back everyone!

beginner works

These images were a few of the very first prints I made this semester...and in my life! Now I am becomming a printmaker addict and am at peace with my decision to continue with litho in the fall. Print On!

work thus far...

So, per Maggie's advice, I decided to post some of my work - the new and the older stuff. The first print is titled "The New War Zone" and was inspired by recent events of bullying on my children's school bus. I felt the need to voice my feelings and I think this avenue is a good start. The second print is titled " The New Terrorist" and shows a schoolboy carrying books that give lessons in hazing, bullying, name-calling, and prejudice. I have not decided on the third plate in the series, but will post that as soon as I have it done and printed. I will also repost these pics when I learn how to do that better. ;)

I've got a link!

Yeah, I'm finally officially linked to the Grown-up blog, so I suppose I should post! I was happy that I got a start on my series today with hopefully a promising idea. The prints mean so much more when I can design them around events that are important to me and mine. It's too bad that I had to take off early today and did not get the opportunity to get a start in the acid. I am eager to get this first one done and getting it printed. ;)

first day

Pretty great for a first day of semester. Much excitement and many new and familiar faces. I'm new to this blogging thing, so I really am a baby. Crawl before walk. Right?
